Should-All

Contributions are welcome in Pester-repo.

SYNOPSIS

Compares all items in a collection to a filter script. If the filter returns true, or does not throw for all the items in the collection, the assertion passes.

SYNTAX

Should-All [-FilterScript] <scriptblock> [[-Actual] <Object>] [-Because <string>]

DESCRIPTION

This assertion runs the filter script against every item in the collection. Nested Should-* failures are treated as filter failures and included in the reported reasons.

EXAMPLES

EXAMPLE 1

1, 2, 3 | Should-All { $_ -gt 0 }
1, 2, 3 | Should-All { $_ | Should-BeGreaterThan 0 }

This assertion will pass, because all items pass the filter.

EXAMPLE 2

1, 2, 3 | Should-All { $_ -gt 1 }
1, 2, 3 | Should-All { $_ | Should-BeGreaterThan 1 }

The assertions will fail because not all items in the array are greater than 1.

System.Object

OUTPUTS

NOTES

Use the -ErrorAction parameter to control soft-assertion behavior for this assertion. -ErrorAction Continue records the failure and lets the rest of the test run (a soft assertion), while -ErrorAction Stop fails the test immediately, for example to guard a precondition before continuing.

When -ErrorAction is not specified, the behavior comes from Should.ErrorAction in the configuration, which defaults to Stop. See https://pester.dev/docs/assertions/soft-assertions for more about soft assertions.
